Challenge
A premier technology integration client had two data centers that needed to be reconfigured. The data centers house servers for government operations and commercial clients. In order to comply with the strict government security regulations, they needed to move the two entities and have them on separate floors. The project also had a strict timeline. The installation had to be completed by a specific date so the government could certify the center.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
- Which stakeholders need to be involved in the design and implementation process?
- What all needs to be done to ensure the cabling system meets the security requirements?
- How can ASD® project managers ensure the deadline is met with such a compressed schedule?
Solution
ASD® designed the structured cabling system for two data center locations, one on the east coast and one on the west. The engineering team had to coordinate with the client, commercial end-users, and government stakeholders to create a design that met everyone’s needs. SIPRNet and NIPRNet protocols were strictly followed to ensure that the system would meet the government’s security standards.
ASD® was awarded the installation for the east coast data center. The data center was going to be divided into two floors, one for commercial clients and one dedicated to government agencies. Due to construction delays, the project was running on a compressed schedule, but the deadline couldn’t move or the center wouldn’t be able to get its government certification in time. Thankfully, ASD’s project managers average almost two decades of experience and have a long track record of working in data centers. They were able to scope, schedule, and execute the project in time to meet the deadline.
Result
The data centers were designed and installed to comply with all SIPRNet and NIPRNet protocols. These are the preferred protocols of the defense and military systems because they support non-classified and classified data communications. These regulations help prevent and stop cyber crimes. Since the deadline was successfully met, the centers were inspected and certified by the US government. Now the technology integrator client has two secure floors that they can use for their commercial and government clientele.
